Thirsty Treats 18+

Red Velvet Mojito

I really enjoy beer, but a mojito is a nice every now and then. This time, I made a red velvet. The bottom part is a normal Mojito dilutes with sprite while the top part is a bit stronger.

Ingredients
Rum
Fresh Mint
Lime Juice
Sprite
Red Vodka
Uzo

 Recipe

  • Bottom part
    Mint
    A squeeze of lime Juice
    100 ml of sprite
    20 ml of Rum
    0,5 tablespoon of sugar
  • Top part
    10 ml of Uzo
    40 ml of Red Vodka
Tips/Notes
  1. Really sweet drinks mostly have a bigger Density than high strong liquors, it might come handy if you want to make a drink with layers. Sometimes juices have a density between sweet low alcoholic drinks and liquors. Might be nice for a 3 layered drink. You can calculate the density by calculating the mass over the Density. However, there are a lot of lists on the internet with densities of certain drinks. So when you bought a drink with layers, be sure you have straw, because the top part can be really strong. Mix it if it is necessary. It might look uglier but it tastes better.
  2. While layering the drink, pour really slowly. You could use a spoon the surface of the liquid and then pour it on your spoon so the layers will be nice.
  3. If you do not want strong cocktails, just add an amount of ice. Looks as fancy as first, and keeps you away from a hangover.
  4. We know mint makes the Mojito complete. But it goes really well with anise liquors like Uzo and sambuca, or even Absinth. Be sure when you use Absinth that you diluted with something like sprite or apple juice. It is 70% alcohol mostly. So yeah... And do not try to shot Absinth. It is stupid and it hurts your throat for like 20 minutes. So yeah drink responsibly.
  5. It might seem that the most of my college are underaged, but you can legally drink in the Netherlands at the age of 18, like most Europian countries. At some countries in Europe, the alcohol age is 16 for low alcohol content drinks. Keep that in mind if you visit this part of the world.
  6. Cocktails need to be tasty and not extremely strong, you must enjoy the drink so keep your cocktail between 5-18% alcohol. Don't worry. Beer is in the end also 5%. so it does not matter if you are drinking cocktail with a bit of alcohol.
  7. If you wanna make the fanciest shit of all, buy Blue Curacao. It had mostly a density of 1110 kg/m3. Other drinks with similar densities are Pisang Ambon, Amaretto and Tia Maria. Orange juice has a density of 1050 so it will layer nicely. However, Blue Curacao looks the best and taste the best. I will do some other recipes with Blue Curacoa later. Blue Curacoa is nice sky blue drink made of distilled of oranges. Later on, I will the short post what the principle of distillation is.
  8. But does not mean that you should make your own moonshine. If you do it wrong you can easily create methanol instead of ethanol. Methanol could make you blind if you drink it.  So let the big distilleries make liquors and do not do it on your own.
  9. Drink a good beer. A good beer is also a refreshing drink. Never forget a cold glass of beer.
